Tarek Al-Wazir, 46, was born and raised in Offenbach am Main. After attending school in Offenbach, Sana’a (Jemen) and Frankfurt (A-Level) he fulfilled his alternative civilian service from 1991 until 1992. Afterwards he began with political science studies in Frankfurt, where he received his graduate diploma. While he was still in school he joined the Gruenen party, where he was named Chairman of the Gruenen Jugend Hessen (youth-organization). In 1993 he became a member of the City Council of Offenbach am Main, 1995 a member of the Landtag (State Parliament), State of Hessen. In May 2000 the parliamentary fraction appointed Tarek Al-Wazir as Chairman of the parliamentary group Buendnis 90/ Die Gruenen in the Landtag, State of Hessen. Seven years later he additional took on the position as State Chairman.
Since 18 January 2015 Tarik Al-Wazir is Minister of Economics, Energy, Transport and Regional Development and Vice Minister-President, State of Hessen.
